As of right now I am 23 books behind schedule of my goal of 200 books this year. I have read 156 (well, 157 when this posts). This is the first year since I’ve started blogging that I’ve been so far behind. I’ve always achieved my goal but also went beyond that and gone over my goal by 50%. Strangely enough I have made peace with not achieving my goal. This is why.
- I have developed new interests in things and started a new travel blog.
- I have focused on growing and improving my business.
When it comes down to what is actually more important to me, it’s definitely having time to focus on my new interests and obviously I need to always work on growing and improving my business.
I recently started clearing out some books. I found myself feeling overwhelmed and knew I had to let go of a few. I donated 6 bags to a high school teacher friend of mine, I did several giveaways and I sold
some of my purchased books to a local bookstore. Even though I cleared out quite a lot of books I still have over a
thousand on my TBR in my house. That doesn’t include my kindle books. I get tour requests almost daily and I have to read those books before I’ll agree to a tour (in most cases). So actually reading the books on my shelves has been hard. But it’s okay. I have let the stress of it go and when I have time and the urge to read some of them, I will.
One way I have found to read some I’ve been wanting to read, or to squeeze in more pleasure reads is listening on audio. I have ‘read’ far more audiobooks this year than any other year. Ever. And this is good. I can now ‘read’ when I clean house, walk the dog, exercise, etc. These are the only ‘books’ I’ve actually bought lately because I’ve put a hold on bringing in any new books at this time. It’s sad not getting new books but at the same time it’s a relief. And hopefully one of these days I can see a dent in my TBR, but just not quite yet.
So how was your reading year? Did you achieve your goals? Are you satisfied with what you have read and made peace with what you haven’t?
Note: These pictures are only three areas of my TBR. I have at least 8 more bookcases in the house that have more that I haven’t read (though many I have as well).
