The Best Books of 2012! And Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays everyone!  I was trying to think of something to leave up for a few days over Christmas that everyone would find interesting.  I know that the blogosphere will be quiet, but for those who do get online, I want it to be an interesting bit to read.  So I decided to do my Best of 2012 post.
In 2012 I read 214 books (okay, it’s not over yet, so it’s probably going to be about 218 or so… ) but it was WAY more than my goal of 150!
Putting together these posts is always so HARD for me!  I’m always afraid that I’m going to leave one out.  Plus it’s a hard decision!  I also am well aware that there are some books I just haven’t managed to squeeze in yet that could very well be on my favorites list.  But I guess they’ll have to wait for next year!
It actually wasn’t hard naming my all time most favorite book of 2012 and that was The Crimson Crown by Cinda Williams Chima, the fourth book in the Seven Realms series.  Find my review HERE, warning, it’s a total gushfest! Also, a heads up, Shelley at Tsk, Tsk, What to Read are putting together a read-along/challenge for the series starting in March.  We just decided on this so details will come by the end of January.  Watch for it.  And start collecting the books!
The rest of my favorites are in no particular order.
Sanctum by Sarah Fine.  WHOA, this book totally caught me unexpected!  Find my review HERE.
Necromancing the Stone by Lish McBride was a total squeefest for me.  Great mix of hilarious and serious.  Love this series! Find my review HERE.
Falling for You by Lisa Schroeder.  She did it again.  I ADORED this book!  It’s her first YA that’s not in verse but was just as good as her verse books.  Loved it and read it in only a couple hours. Review is not yet up.
Froi of the Exiles is one I’m not sure if I like more than Finnikin of the Rock or not.  Both books were AMAZING so I suppose you could say they both fit this slot.  Find my review of Finnikin of the Rock HERE and Froi of the Exiles HERE. (This was one of my most favorite reviews for this year.)
The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson was an absolutely amazing follow up to The Girl of Fire and Thorns.  I’m starting to see a pattern here… fantasy is definitely my thing! Find my review HERE.
The Assassin’s Curse by Cassandra Rose Clarke.  Look at that, another fantasy!  Check out my review HERE.
This is now not coming out until next year, but I read it earlier this year and fell in love!  The Sweetest Dark by Shana Abe is absolutely stunning! Check out my review HERE.
Freshman Year and other Unnatural Disasters by Meredith Zeitlin.  Absolutely laugh out loud funny!  One of my top recs for the year, for sure!  Find my review HERE.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.  How could this NOT be on my favorites list?  I absolutely ADORED this book and it has been a go-to book when buying gifts.  Find my review HERE.

  1. Goodness, you read a lot of books! Mine gets lower and lower every year lol. A read-a-long for the Seven Realms series sounds perfect for me! You will have to remind me, if I forget. :)

I really need to read some of the books on your list asap!

  2. I read sooo many good books this year, I don’t even know if I can put it all on a list!

BUT I did pick up the first in the Seven Realms series, read it and immediately bought the second one. Finished that last night. Now, I can’t read the next one until I get some stuff marked off my list. I name you…BOOK BULLY! (In the best possible way, of course.)

  3. This is a fantastic list, mine will post on New Year’s Eve. I have a few of these on my wishlist..especially the New Adult..since I am loving this, and I am dying to read the Necromancer series!

  4. You know what’s sad Candace? I’ve read almost nothing on that list. I FAIL AT LIFE! I need to read Sanctum for sure, and you already sold me on the Necromancer series, so I hope to get to both of those over the holidays:) I’m on a mission and I will succeed at it dammit!

    Happy Holidays!!!!!

  5. Wow, you read so many books! My goal was to read 400, but a lot of them are picture books. I’m a librarian, so I read hundreds of picture books every year.

Some of your favorites are books that are on my TBR List – The Sweetest Dark, Necromancing the Stone. I want to read the Lish McBride books so much, but haven’t found the time yet. Hopefully soon. I have only heard good things about them.

    Happy Holidays :)

  6. Amber, I hope you do join us for the read along!
Lori, no worries, I will DEFINITELY remind you (aka hound you).
Mary, YAY! I’m so glad you started the series! I cant wait to hear what you think!
Kimba, I cant wait to see your list!
Jenny, I hope you do get to them over the holidays! I cant wait to hear your thoughts!
Vi, you better get busy girl! You SO need to read John Green but Cinda and Rad as well. All MUST reads!
Ali, Have a great Christmas! See you next week!
Quinn, oh man, I have two kids and I have definitely read hundreds of children’s books and they aren’t counted here. But I should have thought of doing a favorite children’s books list….
Brandi, You do need to read more of these! Merry Christmas!

  7. WOW, you have read so many books this year. I need to keep track of the number I read in 2013. I used to do it for the school year, but never all year along.

At any rate, I really want to read Sanctum so I’m glad to see it was a top pick. And YES, The Fault in Our Stars…such an emotional, yet lovely novel.

  8. 214 books?? Lady, that is impressive! From your top 10 books list, I’ve only read The Assassin’s Curse, but it was quite a fun read with wonderful characters. From the list below, I’ve read and loved Dairy Queen, Speechless, Shadow and Bone, and Wanderlove. :)

Deciding which of my favourites to put up was difficult for me too. :) Happy holidays, Candace!

  9. Bahahaha, I see A LOT of books on your favorites and honorable mentions list that will make my favorites list as well. The Fault in Our Stars, The Crimson Crown, The Crown of Embers, Stormdancer, Seraphina, In Honor. And, and, and…

High fantasy and contemps are my THING. 2012 was a good book year!

  10. OMG, Candace, you and my blog partner, Kathryn are my reading rockstars. So many of your books are still on my tbr- or wish list. Dying to get Storm Dancer, The Sweetest Dark and Assasin’s Curse (I totally LOVE that cover), and Falling For You. The Necromancer series is on the tbr. I finally, FINALLY started The Crimson Crown. Lost in it within a few pages of course. I love that world more than any other.
I am so excited about the Seven Realms Read- along. I’ll be ready to read then all again by March. It’s gonna be GREAT, guys. You’ve all got to sign up.

Anyhoo…AMAZING list. And happy, happy holidays!

  11. WOW, you read so many books, and so many awesome ones, it looks like. The only one of your top favorites that I’ve read is The Fault in Our Stars– I bought it as a gift for a few people, too! The Assassin’s Curse and Froi of the Exiles both look really great, though. Hope you read just as many amazing books in 2013. :)

  12. WOW! 214 and still reading…that is amazing! I love these posts and tend to reference them all thru January when trying to figure out what I missed and really need to read from the previous few years. I definitely need to add Green and Marchetta to my TBR!

  13. Oh I’m going to have to keep my eyes open for the information on the read-along. I know many bloggers rave about that series so I’m interested in trying it. I never know with school though how much time I’ll have to read so I will just have to see what my schedule looks like in March.

Thanks for the heads up and I will also have to check out some of the other favorite books on your list. :)

  14. I love SO many of the books you highlighted here, Candace! Sanctum, TFiOS, FROI OF THE EXILES, and The Assassin’s Curse are all such amazing novels. I still have to read Crown of Embers – I don’t know why I’ve been waiting so long! – and your honorable mentions, such as Dairy Queen, Speechless, Seraphina, Stormdancer, Shadow and Bone, Wanderlove, and Insurgent are all some of my faves too. Amazing list! :D
