Mini Reviews of New Releases- Deadlocked & Tricked

Today I’m going to review a few adult newer releases that I thought I could share just a few of my thoughts on.  These are later in series but I think the reviews are pretty spoiler free if you haven’t yet read them.  These are not typical reviews as I haven’t included the descriptions and they are quite brief.

Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse #12) by Charlaine Harris

I love the Sookie Stackhouse books.  It’s like a visit home each time I read one and it’s one series I anticipate each Spring with the coming of the new release.  While I know many have felt disappointed in the direction of the series in the past few books, I haven’t.  Yes, Sookie seems to be growing a bit more callous and world weary with all she’s been through, but I still love her and love getting immersed in her world with each book.  I don’t know where I want things to go, but I love that with each book I’m shocked with things that happen and don’t even see certain things coming.  I do know that what I want for sure is for Sookie to have a happily ever after.  But I would definitely be okay if these books just kept coming out each year for the next 20 years.  Even if all we’re reading about is Sookie’s day to day I would look forward to each moment I spend with her.  So as the series winds down I find myself cherishing each and every second that I’m able to get involved in this most fantastic world that Charlaine Harris has created.

Tricked (The Iron Druid Chronicles #4) by Kevin Hearne

Another most-anticipated book of the spring.  I absolutely have fallen head over heels for this series.  It’s so creative and so fun and I just love going on this crazy ride that we’re sent on with each book.
While Atticus is in many ways a typical guy, he’s a guy that knows just a bit more than the average guy since he’s been alive for many hundreds of years and is a very powerful Druid.
I really love his inner voice and how he manages to be funny even when in life-or- death situations.  His dog, Oberon, who he’s able to ‘talk’ with is also hilarious and there are many, many LOL moments in these books.  But there are also a lot of intense moments as it seems Atticus just keeps getting into more trouble.
In this book he’s starting to realize that maybe he shouldn’t have taken on some things he did as things are just a bit too out of control.  It seems like everything has a domino effect and he’s constantly stuck having to help out someone else which ends up putting him on another ‘persons’ sh*tlist.
I’m definitely anxious for more as I’m most definitely ‘hooked’ on this series!

Disclosure:  These are books I purchased and the opinions expressed are my own.  I was not paid or influenced in any way.

  1. Two books I desperately need to read! I have book 1 of the Iron Druid Chronicles on my shelf and I need to pick it up and meet Atticus (and of course the infamous Oberon), I’m hoping to do that on vacation this summer. And I think I’m two books behind Deadlocked, so I have some catching up there as well! *shakes fist at self*

  2. I loved and enjoyed Tricked soo much!!!!! It felt so long since the last one came out! Is it just me or do you think that there is a tiny bit of romance on the horizon? I hope so!

I haven’t read the last 2 Sookie Books, I like them yes, but I will wait until they are all out for me to read on…
Sookie and Eric and HEA please! It’s time..

  3. Just finished Deadlocked and, while I did love it, I also found myself rolling my eyes quite a few more times than I expected. As for Tricked…LOVE!!! I want more and more. NOW, please.

  4. I haven’t gotten into the Charlaine Harris series, yet…sometime when I don’t have so much to read. I agree about Mr. Hearne’s series. I can’t wait to read more. Oberon is one of my new fav characters, ever!

  5. Sadly, Charlaine Harris has said that the next Sookie Book will be the last *sigh* I just love these books and always look forward to them.

Sure, I don’t love the most recent ones as much as the first five or six, but I love them still! (I have deadlocked, just need to finish my current read!)

  6. Those are both two books of two different series that I want to read as soon as possible! Everyone keeps keeps telling me that the Sookie Stackhouse books are so much fun and I’m glad that it’s still surprising you, even after 12 books! And there’s nothing really to say about The Iron Druids series except that I’m so pumped up for my copy of Hounded to arrive — EVERYONE seems to love that series, and I don’t want to be the odd one out anymore! ;)

    Amazing mini-reviews, Candace! :) <3

  7. Wow glad to see that sookie is still making her mark in the world. I have only read the first book and I wasn’t overly impressed with it so I have held off on continuing this series even though I own the next several books. A lot of people thought this one went downhill as it went along and I’m not yet sure where I shall stand with this entire series and how long it is!

Yay for Tricked! I have the first two books in this series and I really need to dive right in because Kevin is awesome, I’ve met him before and I really need to get around to this series.

Glad both of these worked for you.

  8. I haven’t even finished the first Iron Druid Chronicle book. The series is going to get away from me before I can read it! I hate that. This summer I’ll catch up. Yikes. I did not read the review because I didn’t want to spoil it for myself. I’m sure it was fabulous!

  9. The new Charlaine book is getting super mixed reviews I think I’ll be in the not like side though. I didn’t particularly enjoy the last few books it’s like Charlaine stopped caring. I’m too curious to not read it thoguh.

  10. I really hope I’ll feel the same after reading Sookie’s latest tale. Ms. Harris just announced on face book that #13, Dead Ever After, will be the last book in the series.

Glad to hear you are just as hooked to Atticus as I am. I have Tricked on my TBR. Just need to make time for it. :)
