Saturday Situation & Candace’s Update on ‘stuff’

Saturday Situation is hosted by both Lori at Pure Imagination and myself. It’s a linky for you to link your book related Giveaways and Reviews (and whatever neglected posts you may have). You’ll find the same linky’s at Pure Imagination, so don’t enter them twice!
Keep in mind that you can add your links through the entire week.
You can find this post again by clicking the button on the right side of my blog. I’ll try to keep it up to date to go to the newest Saturday Situation post.

This week you need to head to Pure Imagination to link up as I decided I would still host kind of late and she couldn’t grab the codes for me in time. Instead of using my own codes and them not being the same I figured you guys could just head over there instead.

Candace’s Update:

As many of you know I’ve been cutting back on blogging.  Actually the plan was to take a break or stop completely.   It’s been a few weeks and I’ve been working through my review books and posting the reviews as I finish them.  I’ve come to realize that I really do need to figure out something because blogging takes up more of my life then I thought.  There was so much I wasn’t thinking about, like the constant emails and the having to jump on the computer at all hours because I just remembered I needed to add something or email someone or do something related to blogging.
My blog has always been important to me.  And I think perhaps it’s been too important.  I stress about everything being perfect, about posting everyday, about my reviews being good enough, about having the right content on the right days, etc.  And while I loved having a schedule and knew what I wanted when, it was one more thing to worry about.
Now I haven’t even mentioned the relief I’ve felt as the review books have slowed down. Like any reviewer checking the mail each day and listening for the UPS truck was part of my routine and source of considerable excitement.  But along with it came more stress because the books just pile up and the push to read them gets to be one more thing to deal with.  While I still have some coming in from publishers (due to being on lists mostly) they have really slowed down.  And I’ve managed to read a few books I have owned for years and have been dying to read for all those years.  Now that feels good.
I miss getting all those books in the mail and the excitement that comes with it but I have friends that send me books to read so it’s not stopped (nor is going to) completely.  Thank you awesome friends!  I may also still get titles for review occasionally and I am a reviewer for other places as well (like amazon vine, librarything, etc).
I’ve worked on building my blog for years and I’m not wanting to let it go completely.  I have devoted readers and I’d love to keep you all around.  I’m not sure what the future holds for Candace’s Book Blog but I think I’ll continue to host Saturday Situation with Lori.  I’m also thinking I’ll do posts with mini reviews.  I might have several listed with just one short paragraph of thoughts to go with each.  I’m not sure quite yet.  I do still have books for review so I will definitely have some reviews going up still but they won’t be in normal Candace fashion, they will be short and sweet.  Well, maybe not always sweet. 😉 And I don’t plan to post everyday.
I’m still working on things and figuring out what will work but I don’t want to be gone completely.  I just want to not have to stress about things, I don’t want to have to write posts everyday or spend hours editing my own reviews.  I don’t want to have to get on the computer everyday just to keep up.  So things might vary a bit around here but I hope you’ll stick by!

  1. Sometimes we need to take a break. I took two months off at Christmas. I came back refreshed and ready to post again. But I also only post twice a week. It’s easy to get wrapped up in all the weekly memes so I’m selective.

  2. Aww, that sucks you feel the need to take a break, but I’m glad you’re not disappearing completely. It’s important it’s not too much stress though, so I definitely understand that. I actually took a two month review-copy break last year, because that pile became too much stress for me… I hope you find a good way to balance it with real life! *hugs*

  3. *sigh* Yes, once you start to really blog it will take up a huge part of your life. I know exactly what you are talking about and I truly support your decision! Also, you do not need to decide right now if you want to stop or just take a break! Do what feels right to you!

I envie you a little bit to just read what you want and not having to care about review copies to be read first! Don’t get my wrong, ILOVE getting Review copies but sometimes I just want to read what I want and not what the schedule tells me!!

Do what you want and figure out what is best for you! We will be here :))

  4. Aw, it’s nice to see you back in my Google reader:) You know, I have only been at this blog thing for 4 1/2 months, but I see the amount of time involved and the stress of posting daily and ever growing piles of books to be read and reviewed. I imagine for someone who has been at this as long as you, that your stress must be tenfold! I kinda decided a month or so ago that I’m not going to query publishers yet (though I have requested titles on NetGalley) because, frankly, my life is so busy I think that would be adding fuel to the fire. And I’m not going to worry about posting every day.If I get two quality reviews up a week, plus a meme or two, and maybe a bookish discussion post I’m happy. I may not have the most numbers, or as much exposure as I’d sometimes like, but hey, it’s not a JOB. It’s meant to make me happy. I think you’ll find a balance soon, and no worries! We’ll all still be reading:)

  5. I totally understand. Take some time for you. I’m in the same boat… overwhelmed by the books that need to be read, but trying my best to get through the pile. It’s best that you do what you need to do for yourself and not worry about everyone else. Your blog is yours and you can post as often as you like… there are NO RULES *hugs*

Stay calm, stay healthy, and stay happy! :)

  6. I totally understand–my cortisol levels are through the roof recently and the blog is part of the stress. I LOVE reading and reviewing and commenting but it really does take an amazing amount of time. I’ve gotten really careful about what books I accept for review–they have to be books that I *really* want to read.

Good luck with everything! And, remember, blogging is just a hobby!

  7. Hi, Candace! :) <3

I completely understand what you mean about blogging! It’s crazy and stressful and takes up so much more time that I bargained for. I LOVE blogging and I LOVE my followers and I LOVE finding out about new books that I never read before… but I have to admit to prioritizing my blog probably a bit more than I should haha x) I mean, homework! I used to come home from school every day and finish my homework first thing so I can relax with my friends the rest of the evening! Now I come home from school to comment on all the blogs that have commented on mine and to prepare for the next day’s post and all of that… and I leave my school work to the very last minute. I’m not even supposed to be doing anything stressful right now (per doc’s orders LOL) so that’s not good 😛

So I completely understand that you’d want to cut back on blogging for a bit! But don’t worry because I’ll still definitely be around to read when you DO post :)

Have an amazing weekend, Candace! <3

  8. Thanks for the update, Candace! I’m glad you didn’t stop completely, but I do see where you’re coming from with the stress and such. I’m glad things are slowing down for you and getting better and that I’ll still see your posts! *hugs*

  9. Amen to less stress and getting to read non-review books that you’ve been dying to get to! I completely understand…I didn’t realize when I got on this ride that it would take up more hours than a part time job! Good for you and we’ll still be matter how sporadic your posts!

  10. Oh, Candace! I am totally feeling you on everything you said. Blogging can be very overwhelming and it quickly can take over everything. I’ve been cutting back a lot myself, and I made myself a strict promise to take weekends off completely which helps me out a lot!

I have every confidence that you will find something that works for you. Until then, take your well deserved break and give yourself a lot of ‘me’ time. :)

  11. I knew you were debating about all of this so that doesn’t come as a shock to me but I am glad that you are really thinking about what you want.

Even if you decide to take a month break or just not review every single book you read I will be here no matter what. So whether you keep blogging or if I just have to bug you in emails and tweets I’m sticking around.

I do hope you continue your blog though, even if you can only post every few days and cut back what you are reviewing and working on in terms of blogging.

We all need a break from time to time.

  12. I’m glad your not disappearing altogether! I slowed down quite a bit too and happy for it. I do 3 posts a week and its cut down quite a bit of stress from feeling like I couldn’t go anywhere that my laptop couldn’t. So, I hope you find a much less stressful pace that suits you!

  13. Blogging is such a time sucker even though I do love it.

I hope you’re able to figure out a balance that works for you. I need to do what you’re doing and accept less books for review so I can read what I want to read when I want to. I’ve stopped doing memes and that has helped me out lots.

    Good Luck! :)
