Review: A Tale of Two Goblins by H.P. Mallory

This is what I’m going to start doing for my adult reviews of books that are later in a series (first in a series will be a more full length review).  Because I don’t want it to be spoilery for the previous books in the series I won’t include descriptions and I’ll be vague about plot points.  Mostly talking about character development and if I’m happy with how the series is turning out.

I read the first book over a year ago but then my ereader broke before I got a chance to read the second one.  So as soon as I got a kindle this was the first book I started reading on it.  And I was very glad to be transported to Dulcie’s world once again.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Dulcie.  I like her and I think she’s totally kick ass and is about the best friend a girl could have, but she can be a bit annoying with her determination to not fall in love with any man.  I just wish she would stop being so determined to say no!  But on the other hand some of the men are a bit forward with her and that would be kind of annoying after awhile as well.  Overall the romance aspect of the book wasn’t really my thing even though I can say I totally think the romantic interest is H.O.T.  I just needed them to do it already!  I do think that the next book may make me happier in the romance department though.

I really enjoyed the mystery and while there weren’t really enough clues to really figure it out it was fun watching it all unfold.  And stressful because your just waiting for something horrible to happen.  But somehow these books aren’t dark and scary, Dulcie definitely lightens them up and keeps them fun even when horrible and scary things are happening.

H.P. Mallory is a great writer and I’m anxious to read more by her.  I love the world she’s created in this series and am curious how her other series is.  I’ll definitely be continuing this series as well, I’m dying to see where things are going to go now!

  1. Girl you have been reading like crazy! Did you go on vacation or something?? This sounds like a good series, but I like some of the others you’ve reviewed better. You don’t seem as gung ho about this one. I think mini reviews on the sequels works just fine in these types of series.

  2. “I just needed them to do it already!”

hahahaa! You don’t know how many times I scream this to my books. Why do these couples always fight the inevitable? LOL

I haven’t read this series yet, but I love Mallory’s Jolie series. Though, I’ll admit to having a love/hate relationship with Jolie, too.

  3. Candace you naughty girl, ” I just need them to do it already…” snickering….I downloaded a couple of this authors books when they were free and grabbed a couple $.99 copies but still haven’t had a chance to try her yet, hopefully soon but I don’t want to be frustrated like you :)

  4. Heather,
Nope, just been reading my normal speed! I’m trying to get some reviews stocked up for Spring too so I’ve pushed some way ahead and they are piling up! Hopefully I won’t feel pressured to read as much so I can get yard work done!

  5. I think that’s an awesome idea, Candace! :) Short and sweet and to the point — mini-reviews are actually really awesome!

And this was an awesome review, Candace! <3 LOL the part about just wanting them to do it made me laugh out loud! This sounds like a really fun series, and Dulcie seems like the kind of girl who’d offer a great amount of comic relief during the dark times! :)

  6. “she can be a bit annoying with her determination to not fall in love with any man.”

That would definitely frustrate me too! Yes, I’m sure the guys can be a bit forward and irritating, but I’m always harder on the female characters when it comes to the romance. I like them to make decisions and stick to them so we can move on with the sexy time:)

  7. I haven’t read this series yet (boy, we’re terrible influences on each other–adding to the urban fantasy TBR!) but is sounds cute.

Love a strong main character, though I can see her stubbornness re. the the L-word getting annoying, though. Some Alpha needs to come along and sweep her off her feet!

  8. “I just needed them to do it already!” lol is it weird that I really can not picture you saying this!

Thanks for the great review, I know a lot of buzz went around a few months back about her books but I never bothered to read them and I’m still on the fence about it.

  9. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this series before. The protag sounds a bit stubborn/annoying but with a hot romance it can make up for it >.<

  10. I agree, some of the men are a bit pushy. That kind of bugged me because it sometimes wasn’t really sexy, it was … stalkish or I was left kind of wondering if the guy was a real jerk.

    Well written review!
