Logan Quinn was trying to kill me. My Spartan classmate relentlessly pursued me, swinging his sword at me over and over again, the shining silver blade inching closer to my throat every time. A smile tugged up his lips, and his ice-blue eyes practically glowed with the thrill of battle...
I’m Gwen Frost, a second-year warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, and I have no idea how I’m going to survive the rest of the semester. One day, I’m getting schooled in swordplay by the guy who broke my heart—the drop-dead gorgeous Logan who slays me every time. Then, an invisible archer in the Library of Antiquities decides to use me for target practice. And now, I find out that someone at the academy is really a Reaper bad guy who wants me dead. I’m afraid if I don’t learn how to live by the sword—with Logan’s help—I just might die by the sword...
Kiss of Frost is the second book in the Mythos Academy series. I can't promise there won't be slight spoilers for the first book in the series, but I'll try my best to keep it spoiler free.
This is such a terrific series! Gwen is a character that I love, she's snarky, smart and stands up for herself. She's a devoted friend and stands by those she cares about. She's compassionate enough that she even stands up for others that are not her friends but whom she may feel bad for.
The other characters in the series are great as well. Her friends, her grandmother and her not boyfriend Logan. He is a drop dead gorgeous kick butt Spartan and Gwen only has eyes for him. But it's tearing her apart to see him with another girl and there's nothing she can do about it. I love that the spark is so strong that it's nearly tangible, but yet things do not come easy for them.
This book had loads of recap. It didn't feel like it really started until fairly far into it and it just surprised me how much recap there really was. It may have bothered me more because I had just read the first one and remembered everything, but others have said the same. I think maybe all the recap wasn't really necessary but if you stumble upon the second without reading the first I guess you'll know what's going on.
I think I liked the first one a bit better. I felt the spark between Gwen and Logan a bit more and enjoyed their banter more. That is because they had more scenes together, which of course is a bonus. I also grew just a bit annoyed with Gwen in the second one with just a few things she did. However none of these issues were huge for me and I still very highly recommend this series.
4/5 stars

I skipped your Review since I still have to read the first one. But. I saw your Rating and it seems like the secind book is still a good one! So, I guess I finally have to get started hu?
Aherm...like I needed MORE books to add to my wish list. *Sigh*, there's just no hope for it, it sounds utterly delish.
Thanks for the great review. I'll have to add it to my list.

I didn't read much of your review either, since I haven't read the first one yet. I DID buy Touch of Frost this week though, and I should be starting it soon! I'm looking forward to it!
Oh my gosh, I REALLY need to start this series!! I keep hearing some amazing things about the Mythos Academy series and I'm a big fan of anything mythology-related, so I don't why this one is staying unread! x)
Awesome review, Candace! :) Even if you liked book one slightly better, I'm still taking your recommendation under full swing!
Oh I really need to read it. the book is in my TBR pile since its release... Too many books not enought time lol. Thanks for the review, you're right sometimes the recap are a little too present mainly when you just read the book before.
I have to say that I kind of like recaps in series books ... sometimes there's been a long time between releases and some detail may not be remembered ... sometimes, as you said, you "stumble" into it mid-series and the recaps are helpful.
I'll keep my eye out for this one!
I agree I liked The first book better than the second. I felt that this one was just a little predictable. What fun is reading if you know most of what is going to happen? I also could have used more Gwen and Logan interactions. I love the tension between them!
I still liked Kiss of Frost but I hope Dark Frost is more like the first book unpredictable and exciting.
The first book was very repetitive for me and I had some issues with that in the first book. I actually thought that after the first 70ish pages of Kiss of Frost that the repetitive parts were really cut down compared with book one.
Idk this was one of my favs of 2011! I just loved all of the tension and the fact that this story doesn't have instant love or a romance that just falls perfectly into place.
I can't wait for the third book.
Thanks for the great review, I hope you continue to enjoy this series.
This series sounds interesting! First books usually are a little better. Maybe the third one will be as good as the first!
