MFT Guest: Interview with Suzanne Young and a #Giveaway!

Today I have the fabulous Suzanne Young on the blog!  Suzanne is an author I know personally so I'm super excited to have her on for My Favorite Things!   A Need So Beautiful was a gorgeous story that breaks the mold for YA.  It has unique characters, unique story line and a unique relationship.  And it's all brilliant! You can check out my rave review HERE.   A Need So Beautiful releases June 21st and I already have my copy on preorder.  At the end of this post you'll get your own chance to win a signed copy!  But let's get to it, shall we?

This is Avonlea (from The Eager Readers), myself and Suzanne at a booksigning (not sure which one, we've gone to a lot!).  I thought I had a better picture but I'm not finding it :(
When you think of your favorite things what are the first 10 things that come to mind?

In no particular order:
1. Candy corn
2. Popcorn
3. Family & Friends
4. Reese’s Pieces
5. SUNSHINE
6. Sleeping in
7. Diet Pepsi
8. Travel
9. Going to the movies
10. Cheese

What are your top 10 most favorite fictional characters?

I’m terrible at this! I have zero recall power!! Let me think just in terms of YA to cut it down…

1.      Dexter from This Lullaby
2.      Nick from The Demon’s Lexicon
3.      Dru from Strange Angels
4.      Blake from Flash Burnout
5.      Kit and Fancy from Slice of Cherry
6.      Jace from City of Bones
7.      Maggie Quinn from Hell Week
8.      Gemma from A Great and Terrible Beauty
9.      Peeta from The Hunger Games
10.  Donia from Wicked Lovely

What is your most favorite book of all time?

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison

Who is your favorite character in one of your books?

Hm… How can I pick among my creations?? I think it might be Tessa from The Naughty List? She was just so darn fun to write!

And because I'm sure everyone is wondering (who doesn't already know) what can we see from you in the future?

I have the sequel A Want so Wicked coming out next summer. Yay! And then Spring 2013 I have a new series with Simon Pulse called The Program which is about a teen suicide epidemic and the cure that erases memories.

Thanks so much for being on!  I can't wait for the world to get their hands on your newest book!

Description of A Need So Beautiful:

We all want to be remembered. Charlotte's destiny is to be Forgotten...
Charlotte’s best friend thinks Charlotte might be psychic. Her boyfriend thinks she’s cheating on him. But Charlotte knows what’s really wrong: She is one of the Forgotten, a kind of angel on earth, who feels the Need—a powerful, uncontrollable draw to help someone, usually a stranger.
But Charlotte never wanted this responsibility. What she wants is to help her best friend, whose life is spiraling out of control. She wants to lie in her boyfriend's arms forever. But as the Need grows stronger, it begins to take a dangerous toll on Charlotte. And who she was, is, and will become--her mark on this earth, her very existence--is in jeopardy of disappearing completely.
Charlotte will be forced to choose: Should she embrace her fate as a Forgotten, a fate that promises to rip her from the lives of those she loves forever? Or is she willing to fight against her destiny--no matter how dark the consequences.

  1. I'd like to say that I would help others and be forgotten. At least that's what I hope I'd do. Tough question.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  4. That is just a really tough question. I'd probably help people but I'd be searching for a way around it. It's interesting that it's actually a "good" thing but it sounds like a drug.

Thanks for the great interview. I loved the top 10 YA Fictional Characters question and answer!

  5. I have this perpetual need to help others, but I usually want to be invisable at the same time. So I think I would probably help and be forgotten. But that's easy to say when you're not actually faced with that reality.

  6. I'd have to help the others. My loved ones would know they're loved and if they needed help I hope my selflessness would lead them to have someone like me in their corner. It's not about what we can do for ourselves, it's about helping those in need. And I believe that good things come to those who give so much to help others.

Loved the interview and thanks for the giveaway!

  7. It should all be about selflessness, not selfishness. We all have feelings, but I'd rather help those in need.

Thank you very much, I've been hoping to get my hands on this book!

  9. I know the right answer is to help others and be forgotten...but I don't know if I'm selfless enough to make that choice. I think I'd rather be remembered.

  11. Tough choices. If it means being forgotten by my loved ones, I would choose to be remembered. My reasoning is that if it means being forgetting by a loved ones, then who I am, the people who have shaped me would cease to exist. I would of course, try to help but hopefully find a loophole around it.

  12. I'd like to say that I would help others. But when faced with that reality, who knows if it's true? I hope to have children one day, and I just can't stomach the feeling of abandoning said kids. My mother did it to me, and I could never do it to another person. Tough choices.

  19. Cool interview, and really tough question. You do nice things to be remembered, right? But no one wants to be remembered as mean and selfish. And I don't think you're going to let us take the middle road and say "sort of help" are you?
If I could, I wouldn't help, but I would do my best not to hurt people. Isn't that okay, too?

    Thanks for the giveaway :)

  26. Great interview. Love your top 10 things that come to mind. Going to the movies would have been my first one, then the smell of movie popcorn. Love the smell, I won't eat it, but I will smell it. They use way too much salt :( I am making a note of your top 10 fictional characters because some I haven't heard of :(

Wow, what a question. But that isn't hard to me, I would help and be forgotten. It shouldn't be about you, it should be about those you care about.

  30. edysicecreamlover18@gmailDOTcom GFC Krystal Larson I have been dying to read and review this novel, you are soooo lucky you have a copy :) I would rather be forgotten and help others. It's in my nature to prefer to help others (premed) and I never get anything from it except their gratitude (sometimes not even that). I just feel so much better at the end of the day knowin someone's life is genuinely better (I know this sounds cliched, but it's true for me and my life for now). I also have to admit that in a weird way, I much prefer anonymity. I prefer to be out of the spotlight, so being forgotten, even by family, doesn't sound so bad. Thank you for this giveaway!

  31. Yes I would help others and be forgotten. That's my nature to sacrifice myself. I'm not the type to look for recognition. It's enough to know that someone is better off with my help.

  39. I think I would rather do something and be forgotten than do nothing and be remembered. The reason is because people may remember me as a bad person or a good one. At least knowing that I did something and was forgotten means no one will bother thinking of me with their bias opinion.
