I'm so excited because I have Myra McEntire on the blog for My Favorite Things! I LOVED Hourglass and so it's amazing that I got a chance to have an interview with the author. Hourglass is now out in stores! So make sure you rush out and buy it. If you're unable to buy there's a chance here for you to win it, just read to the bottom for all the info. You can check out my rave review HERE.
Not familiar with Hourglass? Here's the description:
One hour to rewrite the past . . . For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.Shall we commence with the interview? Yes! Let's learn more about this fabulous book and fabulous author!
So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.
Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?
Full of atmosphere, mystery, and romance, Hourglass merges the very best of the paranormal and science-fiction genres in a seductive, remarkable young adult debut.
Are any of your characters based on real people?
Yes! Dru is a combination of two of my girlfriends. She didn't start out that way, but that's who she became!
Is there anything in Hourglass that is taken from real life experience?
Ivy Springs is based on the real town of Franklin, Tennessee. It's gorgeous and walkable and full of character.
Which character do you think you relate to the most?
Em. Mostly the part about my edit button being broken (that came from real life, too).
What was your biggest obstacle to overcome when writing?
I have two boys, and I could only really write when my youngest was asleep. The times I tried when he was awake always ended badly (like the coffee table we had to throw away because of the Elmer's Glue and the glitter. *cough*).
Hmmm.... that sounds familiar. We have experiences like that here when I try to write as well. I have to say a kudos to you for actually writing a book when having small children. I've decided to wait until my children are both in school (my youngest is two) before I bother even trying again. It always just ends in frustration.
How much say did you have when it came to the cover of Hourglass?
NONE. OH MY WORD, so I feel like I can fangirl over it without restraint. I LOVE IT.
Gotta agree! And I haven't even seen the final. I went to Borders to see it but they didn't have it :( I know the final is gorgeous though, with that shimmery cover.
What author would you like to meet the most (dead or alive)?
What author would you like to meet the most (dead or alive)?
J.K. Rowling. The second I finished reading HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS was the second I committed to writing a book. I might be tearing up thinking about it! (Okay, I totally am.)She's really inspired a lot of people. To read, write, use their imaginations... Yep, gotta say she's accomplished a lot!
What superpower would you most like to have?
TIME FREEZE. I would sleep, and clean, and write, and maybe even exercise.Okay, I'm totally with you on that one! I can only imagine all I could accomplish!
What are 10 of your Favorite Things?
Snuggles, my boys, my husband, writing in my office, rainy days, classic jazz, clove-scented anything, wacky socks, my cats, and my dogs.
Last of all, what can we expect to see you in the future?
I have just turned in the sequel to HOURGLASS, and I'm waiting on my revision letter. So you can possibly expect wailing and gnashing of teeth.I CANNOT WAIT for the sequel! It's going to be a long wait...
Thank you so much for coming on today Myra!
THANK YOU!

OMG the coffee table comment - this reminds me of my niece. It's nearly impossible to get anything done when she's awake. You know if it's quiet she's up to something. :p
ReplyDeleteGreat interview, it's always so interesting to hear background info! I love that Dru became a mash-up of two real life friends.

Great interview! I'm sure that glittery, gluey table looked great in your house, Myra. It never ceases to amaze me just how much J.K. Rowling has been able to inspire others. The Harry Potter series feels like a member of my family because it's been around and a part of my life for so long. I love hearing that the series inspired you to get cracking on Hourglass...and then you did! I ordered my copy and I'm just waiting for it to arrive - it should be here this week :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with freezing time. If you figure out how to do it, let me know.
