MFT Guest: Interview with Lori Brighton and Giveaway! 4 winners! (Open INT)

Today Lori Brighton is on the blog for My Favorite Things.  She’s the author of several titles like The Mind Readers, her young book.  She’s also wrote The Ghost Hunter, The Seduction Series, The Night Series,  and The Wild Series.  You’ll have to head over to her website to check out all her titles and the descriptions.  Make sure you read to the end where you’ll find a fabulous giveaway with 4 winners!

When you think of your favorites what are the first 10 things you think of? (This can be anything!  Coffee, chocolate, your dog, Italy… etc)
My son (of course), the beach/ocean, nature/hiking, chocolate (or any junk food, honestly), eating out so I don’t have to cook, Julie Garwood historical romances, traveling, television(I love my T.V. shows!)art (history of and actual doing), history (study of and visiting historical places).
If you could travel to any country what country would you want to go to?
I love the history and culture of England! Also, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, perhaps some Nordic countries in the hopes of coming across Alexander Skarsgard, although that would more likely happen in L.A. Okay, I’m rambling, but there are many, many places I’d like to visit!
What are your top 10 most favorite words in the English language?  (Hey, random can be fun!  But this might be hard…)
Pumpkin. I don’t particular like them, I just like saying the word. Pumpkin. lol. No idea why. Of course I love the wordbookTristan is my son’s name. I love that name, so romantic! Although I did pick up a romance novel once and the heroes name was Tristan. I couldn’t read it. lol. Was too weird.Chocolate is a pretty great word! I think Believe is a wonderful word because we can accomplish so much by just believing. Okay, that’s only five. I’ll have to think of some more later.

If you had to recommend books to a 4 year old,  a 14 year old,  a 30 year old and an 80 year old what would your recommendations to them be?
If you want a more educational book my son and his classmates have always loved these Usborne lift the flap books, one in particular called Under the SeaSome of the Dr. Seuss books have wonderful messages. I like Oh, The ThinksYou Can Think and Oh, The Places You’ll Go.
For 14… I would say C.S. Lewis Lion, Witch and Wardrobeand Anne of Green Gables. Definitely Harry Potter. Who doesn’t love Harry Potter? I also really liked Cynthia Voigt at that age.
For 30, which is a rather traumatizing age as most people start to feel old, I’d suggest something mentally improving like Eckhart Tolle, or something like Eat, Pray, Love.
And an 80 year old can read whatever the hell he/she wants!

What is your all time favorite fictional character?
I think I’m going to have to go with Darcy and Elizabeth from Pride and PrejudiceDarcy, if I had to pick just one.  Although I’d rather watch the movies than read the book. lol.

What was your favorite character to write?
Honestly, I’m pretty fickle; its usually whatever book I’m writing at the moment. But I have really enjoyed writing about my YA character, Cameron in The Mind Readers. YA was new genre for me, so it was fun to delve into something new. And I loved writing about how Cameron grew as a person throughout the story.

What is your favorite paranormal creature?
Vampires are pretty awesome, and obviously I’m not the only one to think that way! But I do love angels/fallen angels. There’s something about a being soooo good that’s he’s bad that gets to me.

Do you have anything in the works you want to share with us?
I’m always working on many books at the same time. Seriously, its ridiculous. I have like 4 books I’ve started and are waiting in line to be written and at least 5 more in mind. Right now I am working on a historical romance. Trying to get that done and up (called To Seduce an Earl). It should be available in a couple weeks. I’m also working on a short story for an anthology in which the proceeds are going to charity. That will be released in the fall.
After those two are written I have to work on book 2 of The Mind ReadersThe Ghost Hunter and A Night of Secrets. And I have two paranormal romances I’m eager to get going on(one with an angel!). And I have a couple YA ideas too. lol. The hard part is forcing myself not to delve into a new series and instead finishing the ones I’ve started.
About Lori:
As a child, thoughts of far-off places and adventure consistently kept Lori up late at night. After graduating high school, she came to the conclusion that there was no better way to seek adventure and nourish her love of history than to become an archaeologist. She went on to receive a degree in anthropology, but digging in the dirt during humid Midwestern summers wasn’t exactly as fun as she thought it would be.

Instead, she went to work in an air conditioned museum where she spent her days surrounded by creepy Victorian animal mounts. Still, she wasn’t satisfied.

Deciding the people in her imagination were slightly more exciting than the dead things in a museum basement, she set out to write her first romance novel. That book was soundly rejected. As was the next. Years went by and she began to wonder if she’d ever see her dream fulfilled. Until one day she came up with an idea for a book that brought together her love of history and adventure: a book now titled Wild Heart. Since Wild Heart’s release, Lori has written Historical Romance, Contemporary Paranormal Romance and Young Adult.
Lori currently resides in the Southern U.S., where she juggles her time between a husband, a son, a golden retriever, a cat and the many, many people in her imagination.

  1. Great interview. I am so with Brighton. If I could even meet an Alexander Skarsgard lookalike in one of the Nordic countries, I wouldn’t come back LOL! But Scotland is definitely my top choice. Great favorite fictional character though. Darcy is a great choice. I would love both packs, but I choose Prize Pack #2 (over 18). Really looking forward to The Mind Readers, but I also really want the Ghost Hunter, that cover is hot! LOL! Thanks so much guys :)

  6. Wow Lori, you are a machine when it comes to books! I can’t believe you can have that many stories vying for your attention in your head an not go crazy.

Loved the questions, Candace! They are very inventive and different, which is always nice.

Also, can we all just go to whatever country Alexander Skarsgard is in. I’m willing to share him :)

And again, I shouldn’t enter the giveaway, but I can’t help it! Sign me up for The Mind Readers, please :)
