MFT Guest: Felicity Heaton & her top three paranormal creatures + a Giveaway! (Int)

My top three paranormal creatures
Firstly, I want to say a big thank you to Candace for inviting me to participate in this fantastic event.
If you’re not familiar with me, here’s the lowdown. I’m Felicity Heaton and I’m a prolific adult paranormal romance author. I’ve penned over forty stories under the names Felicity Heaton and F E Heaton, and have over thirty books for sale (or some of them are free downloads) at the moment. Most of them are paranormal romances about vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters or dark angels, but I do also write some science-fiction romance stories too.
My latest book, Ascension, is the first book in my new Shadow & Light Trilogy series. It’s a passionate and action-packed urban fantasy romance featuring a powerful kick-ass witch heroine, Lealandra, and a snarky kick-ass dark half-demon hero, Taig.
Today, I want to talk about my favourite three paranormal romance species.
Top of my list has to be vampires. I have loved vampires ever since I was a young kid around twenty five years ago, so I think they’re fairly qualified to head the list of my fave creatures of the night. I am fascinated by them, but I fall on the more traditional side of the fence when it comes to how they should act and what they should be like. I like my vampires dark and deadly, and unapologetic about what they are. They have to be creatures with incredible abilities, shrouded in darkness, filled with mystery and a healthy dose of evil too. They have to have weaknesses other than their profound love for the heroine, such as sunlight and stakes or other weaponry normally associated with vampire hunters. And they have to have embraced their dark new world. I’m not into sparkly vampires or ones who abstain from human blood without good reason, or do the synthetic thing. The darker the better for me. Part of their appeal is that dangerous side of them after all. Defang them and they’re just not that interesting. Dark, deadly, and dangerous. That’s how I write them in my stand alone stories and my Vampires Realm series, and that’s just how I love them!
Second in line at the moment are angels. I know they’re fairly new on the paranormal /urban fantasy scene, but I’m heavily into writing them right now with my Her Angel series. I tend to write them dark and passionate, and still working for a higher power. I wanted to write angels who were actively working in a manner that we imagine they do, serving the powers that be, and I wanted to explore things that angels might be capable of as well as things that might still be forbidden for them. They’re more than just sexy guys with wings in my stories. I love writing them as passionate, possessive heroes who are incredibly powerful and who battle the forces of evil to protect those they love. There’s something mysterious about angels, otherworldly, and I think that’s part of their appeal to readers. It’s the lure of the forbidden and it certainly works on me.
Third spot in my list of my favourite paranormal creatures has to go to demons. The opposite of angels, these guys can be just as sexy and appealing, and just as otherworldly.Demons have that forbidden appeal of angels mixed with the danger and deadliness of vampires, and on top of that they have their own qualities that I love to explore in my stories. I don’t want them looking pretty as a peach when they go bad and show their true appearance. A demon should be scary, the stuff of horror movies, but at the same time we have to feel that the heroine herself isn’t in any danger (or us, as it were since we readers love transporting ourselves into the role of the heroine). A little like vampires or werewolves, there’s something appealing about a beast who will do anything to protect the heroine, who might look frightening but is still the hero underneath, and still retains his desire to keep the heroine safe from harm even when in his demonic form. I think it’s the sense that no matter how dangerous he might be to others, he’ll never hurt the heroine. It really drives the depth of the hero’s love for her home if he can look and act like a monster, yet be gentle and tender with the heroine when in that form. That was the reason I wrote Ascension, so I could explore just how dark and destructive a demon could be, but just how loving and possessive, how protective he might be at the same time, and how beautiful that would make the love he has for the heroine.
If you’re a reader looking for an action-packed, magical and passionate urban fantasy romance with a difference, then head on over to my website and check out the excerpt of Ascension: http://www.felicityheaton.co.uk
Ascension is available now in e-book format direct from my site, on Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook, Apple iBookstore and other retailers, and is also available in paperback from Amazon.
Ascension
Felicity Heaton

A witch on the verge of achieving phenomenal power, Lealandra must turn to her half-breed demon ex-lover Taig for protection from the dark force that is after her and also from her own magic. With her Counter-Balance dead and her coven against her, Taig’s blood and power is the only thing that can help her control her magic and survive the ascension and gain the strength to defeat her enemy. Old feelings come flooding back as Taig allows her into his world and Lealandra finds herself fighting not only for survival but to win his broken heart again and heal the pain in their past. Can he forgive her for walking out on him all those years ago and will he ever believe her when she tells him that he’s not a monster but the man that she loves?

Biography:
Felicity Heaton is a romance author writing as both Felicity Heaton and F E Heaton. She is passionate about penning paranormal tales full of vampires, witches, werewolves, angels and shape-shifters, and has been interested in all things preternatural and fantastical since she was just a child. Her other passion is science-fiction and she likes nothing more than to immerse herself in a whole new universe and the amazing species therein. She used to while away days at school and college dreaming of vampires, werewolves and witches, or being lost in space, and used to while away evenings watching movies about them or reading gothic horror stories, science-fiction and romances.
Having tried her hand at various romance genres, it was only natural for her to turn her focus back to the paranormal, fantasy and science-fiction worlds she enjoys so much. She loves to write seductive, sexy and strong vampires, werewolves, witches, angels and alien species. The worlds she often dreams up for them are vicious, dark and dangerous, reflecting aspects of the heroines and heroes, but her characters also love deeply, laugh, cry and feel every emotion as keenly as anyone does. She makes no excuses for the darkness surrounding them, especially the paranormal creatures, and says that this is their world. She’s just honoured to write down their adventures.

  1. I definitely know your angels books. Very good =) I’d love to win Ascension! It’s caught my eye on some blogs. My 3 would be…vampires, demons and fairies. I love reading about witches but only if it’s the leading lady not the guy…lol

  2. Demons, Vamps and Werewolves.
Okay those are kinda the main ones but I’ve read/watched more stuff about them so like them better.

  3. Great post. I love all the creatures you listed specifically angels. When I see wings, I go nuts LOL! I totally agree about the vampires, they shouldn’t sparkle or get blood when they aren’t even hungry. Demons too are sort of new to the paranormal romance world and I love it. Who says they are what we have always been told they were? Why can’t they be hot? LOL! But you hit it on the head, they may go after others, but I love that they defend their women. Gets me all the time.

3 Favorite Paranormal Creatures: Fallen Angels, Were-anything, and Incubi (Andra is so right, demons yes, but a different kind).

  11. Since I am an equal opportunity lover of all things paranormal this is tough…but I guess if I had to narrow it down I would choose vampires, shifters and demons (the sexy kind like in the Demonica series) as my top 3.
