Hello all you lovely people! My Favorite Things is winding down with only one week left of new posts. It's been a lovely time with you all and I would say it's been a huge success!
Now before historical fiction week ends I have a giveaway for you lovelies who love pirates. Who doesn't love pirates?! They can be good, evil, hot, handsome... the list goes on. Some of my favorite books have pirates in them and so I'm very excited to give some you the chance to read some of these wonderful books.
There will be two winners. One is US only and is for a copy of Steel by Carrie Vaughn. This book was provided by HarperTeen for Giveaway. The second winner is open internationally and is for a book of your choice from those I'll list below or a book of your choice with pirates in it.
Sixteen-year-old Jill has fought in dozens of fencing tournaments, but she has never held a sharpened blade. When she finds a corroded sword piece on a Caribbean beach, she is instantly intrigued and pockets it as her own personal treasure. The broken tip holds secrets, though, and it transports Jill through time to the deck of a pirate ship. Stranded in the past and surrounded by strangers, she is forced to sign on as crew. But a pirate's life is bloody and brief, and as Jill learns about the dark magic that brought her there, she forms a desperate scheme to get home—one that risks everything in a duel to the death with a villainous pirate captain. Time travel, swordplay, and romance combine in an original high-seas adventure from New York Times bestseller Carrie Vaughn.
This series is absolutely fabulous, I highly recommend it to anyone. If this is the one you'd pick your welcome to choose any from the series if you have already begun the series or own a few.
Life as a ship's boy aboard HMS Dolphin is a dream come true for Jacky Faber. Gone are the days of scavenging for food and fighting for survival on the streets of eighteenth-century London. Instead, Jacky is becoming a skilled and respected sailor as the crew pursues pirates on the high seas. There's only one problem: Jacky is a girl. And she will have to use every bit of her spirit, wit, and courage to keep the crew from discovering her secret. This could be the adventure of her life--if only she doesn't get caught. . . .
This is my all time favorite series and you are welcome to pick from any books in the series if you have already started the series or own some of the books. This is only available to those 18 or older though, sorry! It's not a series for everyone, only for the open minded.
"Born with a scarlet mote in her left eye, Phedre no Delaunay is sold into indentured servitude as a child. When her bond is purchased by an enigmatic nobleman, she is trained in history, theology, politics, foreign languages, the arts of pleasure. And above all, the ability to observe, remember, and analyze. Exquisite courtesan, talented spy...and unlikely heroine. But when Phedre stumbles upon a plot that threatens her homeland, Terre d'Ange, she has no choice." "Betrayed into captivity in the barbarous northland of Skaldia and accompanied only by a disdainful young warrior-priest, Phedre makes a harrowing escape and an even more harrowing journey to return to her people and deliver a warning of the impending invasion. And that proves only the first step in a quest that will take her to the edge of despair and beyond." "Phedre no Delaunay is the woman who holds the keys to her realms's deadly secrets, and whose courage will decide the very future of her world."
In the late seventeenth century, famed teenage pirate Emer Morrisey was on the cusp of escaping the pirate life with her one true love and unfathomable riches when she was slain and cursed with "the dust of one hundred dogs," dooming her to one hundred lives as a dog before returning to a human body-with her memories intact.
Now she's a contemporary American teenager and all she needs is a shovel and a ride to Jamaica.
I know there are many more amazing books with pirates but my mind is drawing a blank. If you have another book with pirates in it in mind I'm willing to order that for you instead of these.
One person with a US address will win Steel by Carrie Vaughn.

Argh! Pirates are awesome, thanks a ton for the giveaway! I'm US, and I'd like to enter both.
ReplyDeleteI love reading about pirates because it's such a unique premise, and you can go pretty much anywhere with the idea. Dogs, time-travelers, whatever! There's so much world-building to it, too. And you can't forget the sword fights ;)
I haven't read too many, but Steel was amazing.
Thanks again, matey!

ReplyDeleteHi, Candace! What a great idea for a giveaway. =D
My favourite pirate book is still Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson! =D You can't go wrong with the classics, aye? What I love about pirates as villains (or heck, even as anti-heroes) is the guarantee of a great adventure at sea, twice the amount of danger one usually finds, and all sorts of secrets and treasure!
I'm international, so I have to go for a piratey book of my choice! Thanks for this chance. =)

Thank you for the fun giveaway!

US! And I would totally enjoy a copy of Steel. : ) I haven't caught up to the Kitty series, but Carrie Vaughn was one of my first UF authors. Love her!
ReplyDeleteI love the swords! I love pirate swords and the boats and that they travel to far away places... the pillaging thing isn't as awesome, but I like to imagine they go on adventures (yes, a little like Capt. Jack Sparrow!) and do less of the whole stealing thing, lol.
Thanks!

Wow, what a giveaway hon. Thank you so much. I am US, but to be honest any of these would be great. I would like either Steel by Carrie Vaughn or Bloody Jack (#1) by L.A. Meyer. I don;t think I have ever read anything about pirates. This is definitely new to me, I would love to try though. I added the other ones you mentioned as well although Kushiel's Dart seems risky (read some reviews), still I will check it out. Thank you so much hon :)

ReplyDeleteI'm US. I'd love to win Steel by Carrie Vaughn.
ReplyDeleteI've read many pirate books over the years, but the only one I can think of right now is The Iron Duke - he was a former pirate.
I love reading about pirates because they had lots of adventure on the high seas, and lived by their own rules, not the authorities. It seems like they had a lot more fun than the so-called good guys. And of course, in pirate books, they usually really are the good guys.

ReplyDeleteI don't read many books about pirates at the moment but my favourite pirates books would have to be Pirates! by Celia Rees :) I love the action and adventure involved with pirates and because you don't get many real pirates in todays society, it just makes pirates that much more special! :)
Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'm US.
I would like Steel, but I'm waiting for the results of a giveaway for The Price of Freedom by AC Crispin, A Pirates of the Caribbean novel. If I don't win that, I would probably substitute it for Steel.
As much as I love pirates, I haven't read that many pirate books. I have read Bloody Jack and quite liked it though. It's the swordfights I think.

ReplyDeleteI am a US resident.
I love pirate books because pirates are so irreverent! They don't follow any of the regular rules, but they have their own code of honor that they live by. And for some reason, every pirate captain in a book is extremely sexy! Hmm, imagine that! My favorite pirate book of the moment is a children's book that I just won over on VVB32 called The Ballad of the Pirate Queens, by Jane Yolen. I love to read it to my son, and he loves to hear it!
