In My Mailbox (63) & Dark Days Event Recap

Hello Everyone!  Can you believe it’s almost mid June already?!  I can’t believe the summer is here!  School gets out this coming week and then it’ll really start to feel like summer and we can do summery things.
But The Dark Days of Summer Tour was here and I was there!  I made a vlog about it but I mostly rambled about how frustrated I was with my kids.  So I decided to scrap that.  No need to be all negative!
My kids were frustrating and I don’t think I’ll go to another BIG event with them.  I bring them to the local author signings with no problem, but this place was packed with unfamiliar people.  Suzanne Young did show up (she brought bookmarks!) which was a surprise because she wasn’t going to.  But it was nice to see a familiar face.  There were a few regulars I see at most all the signings as well, but in the end I ended up having to entertain my kids in the kids area.   I waited until the line was done and then hopped onto the end and got my books signed!

Caption: This picture was taken after the signing when Sara from The Novel Novice was doing the video interview.  Tara Hudson, Amy Plum, Aprilynne Pike, Veronica Roth and Ellen Schreiber.

First up was Amy Plum.  She wrote Die for Me, which I’ve owned but have yet to read (bad me!).  Amy was awesome and brought chocolate from France (YUM!).  She signed my book and we chatted just a teensy bit.  Next was Tara Hudson who wrote Hereafter.  I read Hereafter on NetGalley so I had to buy the book (the only one I bought at the signing!) and she signed it.  I had books for Veronica Roth (FOUR copies of Divergent) and Illusions for Aprilynne Pike.   I got to chat with Tara more then the others as my kids were crazy maniacs that I had to keep checking on.  I was really frazzled so it was hard for me to have conversations with them (again- my kids!) but Tara was talking about her child (18 months, I think?) and then I talked about how many books I’ve read this year with Aprilynne.  Then I cruised over to say hello to Ellen at the end of the table.  I met her at the winter tour and did an interview with her so she remembered me.

Caption: Right when Q&A started.  Amy Plum, Tara Hudson, Veronica Roth and then Ellen was cut off :(  I had to hold the camera really high and zoom in a bunch to get this picture.

Me and Amy Plum.  I think the stress is quite evident upon my face.  It was a little hard to do the photo with my kids running free.  Amy looks good though!

Ellen Schreiber and I.  This picture is a bit better!  Though it took a couple takes 😉  I wish I could have just relaxed and let that huge grin take over.

Before I left I had them all sign my bag which actually started more conversation as I pointed out who the signatures belonged to.  They love Lisa Schroeder and Suzanne Young which is exciting for me cause I consider them my friends.  So it’s like they were saying they were huge fans of my friends!  It’s funny how that is, how much it excites me.  But they are brilliant authors and they SO deserve the admiration!

 My beautiful bag :)

Overall it was a lot of fun and I’m glad I went.  I just wish it had been a couple weeks later so there wasn’t school and I could have had a sitter.  But it’s done now and I’m excited to be able to say that I was there!
You can see more pictures, and eventually a video (it’s not up yet as I write this) at The Novel Novice (links to recap post).

  1. I wish the Dark Days event came near me, but they don’t… It looks like you had fun even if your kids were driving you crazy. You got some great books, and I LOVE that bag. I might just have to steal your idea…

  2. I’m so sorry I forgot to say hi. Now I know what you look like for next time, though.

I love that picture you got with all of them! How cool. Your book bag is really neat too!

I know, it’s so frustrating trying to take your kids along. This time I was able to get my mom to watch her so that I didn’t have to worry about it.

I posted all about my experience if you want to see!

  3. Ooh awesome! The Supernatural Summer tour wasn’t near me this year. Oh well! Isn’t there going to be another one in the fall?? Hoping they head my way if that’s true!

Great mailbox! Been seeing Kevin Hearne’s books around, thinking I might have to look into it!

My IMM goes up tomorrow! Be sure to stop by!

    Jessica@a GREAT read

  4. What a fantastic event. I am envious 😀
I have Hereafter on my wish-list and have just discovered The IRon Druid Chronicles thanks to the meme hosted by Book Chick City 😀 😀
    Have a fantastic week *hugs*

  5. Candace-

I see you’ve gotten interested in your MFT partner’s Druid series. She interviewed the author a few months ago and I knew I’d have to read it. I have that one and the next one.

So sorry you really couldn’t enjoy the signing. And thanks for getting my books signed. That was a bonus for winning the prize. I really appreciate it! None of the tours are coming anywhere near me so I wouldn’t have gotten them signed.

I haven’t heard of Chosen. I’ll be looking for your review to see if it’s any good. And I’ve seen Mockingbirds, but always with a blue bird.

    Enjoy your reading!

  6. WOW!–I’m glad you had fun, despite the kiddies! 😉 –And your pictures turned out great!!!

I *LOVE* your idea for the signed bag!!!!–I’ve been trying to figure out what to do now that I have an ereader, and that’s such an awesome idea!!!! :)

The Mockingbirds is a great read!!!–I totally *LOVED* it!!!–And I hear she’s working on a companion book!

Hope you have a great week!!!

  7. I’m jealous you went to the Dark Days tour, as they aren’t coming my way. It’s too bad the little ones were fussy, but at least you still got the chance to go and chat a bit. That bag of yours is awesome! Enjoy Hexed (I’m picking up the first two very soon!) and your other books. I loved The Mockingbirds, so I hope you love it just as much.
