Yesterday I got to go see Kimberly Derting for her signing and reading of Desires of the Dead (Book #2 of The Body Finder series). This was my third time seeing her. I saw her her The Body Finder reading and signing and then in January I saw her for The Dark Days tour in Seattle with Cynthia Hand and Ellen Schreiber. I did a video interview with them at that time so if you haven't seen it check it out!
This time the signing was at Powells Cedar Hills Crossing. That's where Powells hold their signings most of the time now. And it's just a smaller version of the amazing Powells in downtown Portland. It still has the amazingly high bookshelves and is stocked with new and used books. Since this is where the signings are then they have signed copies of books from other authors that have been by recently as well.
When I got to the signing I saw Kimberly right away and went over to say hi. Violet from The Eager Readers was there as well and I gave her a big hug. I haven't seen her since the October Sci- Fi Authorfest so it was great to see her. Suzanne Young (A Need So Beautiful, The Naughtly List books) and Inara Scott (Delcroi Academy) were there as well and I had fun chatting with them. Sara from Novel Novice was there and other book lovers I see at most signings and have become familiar faces. My sister in law went with me as well and it was nice to have her with. She had fun talking with everyone too.
This was the first time I've met Inara Scott in person. In case you don't know, she's the author of The Candidates (Delcroix Academy #1), which was her debut last year. She's really really nice. One of those people that's really down to earth and SO easy to talk to!
Anyway, I got some videos of a few of the questions that were asked so I could share them with you guys.
This one the question asked before I had the camera on was if she writes on different books at the same time and how she keeps it straight. (Not a quote). These last two should actually be switched around to be in the correct order, but it doesn't really make any difference.
Afterward we all kind of hung out and talked for a bit and then Inara was carrying around Tiger's Curse (Book 1) by Colleen Houck. There were signed copies since the author had just had a signing recently, and that cover is to DIE for! It's super shimmery and it makes the pages inside look like they have a blue tint. Maybe they do have a blue tint, but I think that it's just the reflection or something. Anyway, I gave in and got myself a copy. I couldn't resist that beauty! Plus it sounds awesome!
Once we said goodbye to everyone my sister in law and Violet and I walked over to the market nearby and got salads and coffee (well, I got coffee) and we went on about how AWESOME it was! It really was a fantastic time.
Next month Cassandra Clare and Holly Black will be in town and I'm looking forward to going to that event!
Some bookish news:
There will soon be a trailer for A Need So Beautiful. Suzanne is currently contemplating which hottie to pick to play the role of Harlin.
The cover of The Candidates (Delcroix Academy, Book 1) is being redone. There will be a new book launch and the new cover will be the match for the future books. The second book has a new name and is no longer The Watchers but I can't for the life of me remember the new name!
The Pledge by Kimberly Derting is a dystopian fantasy and it sounds freaking AMAZING!
