Cheerleader Isobel Lanley is horrified when she is paired with Varen Nethers for an English project, which is due—so unfair—on the day of the rival game. Cold and aloof, sardonic and sharp-tongued, Varen makes it clear he’d rather not have anything to do with her either. But when Isobel discovers strange writing in his journal, she can’t help but give this enigmatic boy with the piercing eyes another look.

Soon, Isobel finds herself making excuses to be with Varen. Steadily pulled away from her friends and her possessive boyfriend, Isobel ventures deeper and deeper into the dream world Varen has created through the pages of his notebook, a realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life.

As her world begins to unravel around her, Isobel discovers that dreams, like words, hold more power than she ever imagined, and that the most frightening realities are those of the mind. Now she must find a way to reach Varen before he is consumed by the shadows of his own nightmares.

His life depends on it.

My Thoughts:
There aren’t words to describe how much I loved this book.  I loved it so much that every 100 pages or so I wanted to scream to the sky “THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!”.  Instead I posted on twitter and to my friend Lori, who already read it.  This book has certainly made it onto my favorites of the year list, but I believe it has also made it onto my all time favorites list.
So why, exactly, did I love it so much?  To be honest, I loved everything.  The characters were great.  I don’t recall ever being annoyed with Isobel.  I may have once or twice but it was so brief it didn’t count.  Varen was, well, he was my kind of guy.  The kind of guy I went for in high school.  Dark, moody, mysterious, goth…  Guyliner and piercings, yep.  Totally brought me back to high school.
The supernatural aspect of the story was certainly different.  You don’t really understand everything until it’s done, and even then it’s almost kind of hard to wrap your head around it, but it’s amazing!  I could picture this ‘place’ and the ‘supernatural-ness’ clear as day.  This author had her descriptions down perfect and I never had any issue with picturing the people or the world.
Although this is a long book it didn’t take me long to read it.  I’d sit down to eat a meal and I’d end up reading 100 pages.  I couldn’t put it down!  And it just gets better and better as you go.
This is one of those emotional books.  I mean, it’s not all teenage angst at all,  it’s just that there’s some bullying and some characters that made me SO mad!  But it was a good thing!  I just really got sucked into the story and truly cared about the characters and what happened to them.
Okay, so I can’t get away with saying nothing about the romance.  But really it’s hard to say much because it will be too spoiler’y.  So this is what I’ll say: This book has a kiss that is over the top amazing!  I don’t usually pay much attention to kissing.  I’m not sure why, but I don’t.  This one had such a lead up that when this kiss happened my heart went all a flutter and then it stopped.  I found myself gasping for breath.  I paused at the end of the scene… then I read it again.  And again.  And again.  I have the page number memorized, and no, I won’t tell you!
Kelly Creagh, you have done such an amazing job creating a fascinating, unique world with characters I could relate to and understand.  You have made it on my all time favorites list and this is a book that will get good and worn out because I already have several people lined up to read it!
I get tears in my eyes trying to describe things, but there’s no way to explain it’s amazingness.  You must just go out and buy it if you haven’t already!
I can’t WAIT for the next book and in the meantime… I’ll be dreaming of Varen…
So the rating… Can I only give it 5/5?  Cause this one deserves 10/5!  Seriously.
But I only have 5 moons, so 5/5 it is…
