The Blog Hop (19) and Feature and Follow Friday (8) and a GIVEAWAY (closed)!

Feature and Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee’s View.  This is a great way to meet new bloggers and find new blogs!   This week I’m the featured blogger, YAY!  So welcome everyone to my blog!  This week Rachel asks:
What is your favorite brick and mortar bookstore?
Well, that one’s easy!  Powells in downtown Portland, Oregon.  It’s only about 20 minutes from my house and it’s the biggest bookstore in the US (I think).  It’s HUGE and it smells so wonderful.  It has new and used books and they are housed together.  And it has the super high shelves, though they only put extra stock on the out of reach shelves.  The smaller Powells in Cedar Hills, which is about 40 minutes from my house, is where most of the booksigning’s around here are at so I love that one as well.
I’m also doing the Blog Hop hosted by Jenn at Crazy-For-Books.  Each week Jenn also  picks a question to be asked, and answered (it’s always nice to have more to say in the comments!) and this week she asks:
Do you judge a book by its cover?
And the answer is yes.  I’ll buy a book just for the cover.  But sometimes I’ll read a book even if it has a bad cover, but generally only after I’ve heard some good reviews.
Some going’s on around here:
Last week I gave away a small swag pack to a random commenter (only those who left an email)
and am giving away Firelight swag this week! (GIVEAWAY CLOSED)
One random commenter (to this post) who leaves an email or twitter handle
wins a Firelight bookmark, postcard and sticker.
And sure, it’s open INTERNATIONALLY!  This time anyway.
I will select a winner, via Monday sometime.
Sorry, blogger is being a pain and not letting me upload pictures!
But Firelight comes out Sept 7th so this is a great way to remind everyone to get ready to rush and buy this one!
Thanks for subscribing!

  2. Hi Candace! *waves*

Just hopping by to say hello! Biggest bookstore in America? *whistles* lucky! The biggest bookstore we got around here in Australia, well where I live ( in a big city) is Borders (just your average bookstore) so I envy you! Have a great weekend and happy reading! I’m an ancient follower!

    Til next time!

  3. I hated that saying growing up, but now I realize I do judge books by their covers. I can tell which ones might be more “smuttier” and which ones aren’t. I’ve bought quite a few books based soley on the cover. Of course the back of the cover description does tend to help in my buying it too.

And since I see people adding their following status, I’m an old follower too.

  4. Well, I wouldn’t go so far as to buy a book because I loved the cover, but I am more likely to take a peek at the book whose cover I liked.

I’m a new follower from the Follow Friday.

  5. Hi there Candace,
