Description:
Riley Bloom left her sister, Ever, in the world of the living and crossed the bridge into the afterlife—a place called Here, where time is always Now. Riley and her dog, Buttercup, have been reunited with her parents and are just settling into a nice, relaxing death when she’s summoned before The Council. They let her in on a secret—the afterlife isn’t just an eternity of leisure; Riley has to work. She’s been assigned a job, Soul Catcher, and a teacher, Bodhi, a curious boy she can’t quite figure out.

Riley, Bodhi, and Buttercup return to earth for her first assignment, a Radiant Boy who’s been haunting a castle in England for centuries. Many Soul Catchers have tried to get him to cross the bridge and failed. But he’s never met Riley…

My Thoughts:
First of all, I’ve never read anything by Alyson Noel.  I have Evermore and Blue Moon here but they’ve just sat and have been waiting to be read, I just haven’t got to them.  When I received this one for review I thought it was a good chance to get a taste of her writing in a quick, short read.  I was a tiny bit worried about seeing things Ever was doing and getting spoilers, but I needn’t have worried.  It had very little about Ever in it and what it was was just brief peeks of Riley watching her.
This book started off a little bit slow.  I almost felt like I was in this dreamworld where things didn’t make a lot of sense to me.  But clearly it was much like that for Riley as well.  For Riley is dead and is the Afterlife.   Once Riley was assigned her tasks and went off to recruit some ghosts to pass over it picked up.  The story was definitely interesting and I love ghosts so that aspect was terrific.   In the beginning I felt like Riley was a brat, but it turns out that that’s what works for her.  Her stubbornness and attitude ‘get things done’.
I read this book in about an hour, it was super fast.  And I found myself enjoying it quite a lot after the first little bit.  I look forward to reading The Immortals series and continuing this series as the books come out.

  1. Wow, I love the name of the book and I have just recently read and reviewed a couple of books where the main character was not just a brat but almost annoying, however as you mentioned in your review it worked for her. I also am very in to fairies so I love the set up of your blog, I am infinately jealous. :) I am just stopping by from the hop but glad I did.
Thank you for sharing. It sounds like you have a very busy life, but take the time to spend with your family as that times goes so quick.

  2. I have read the Immortal’s series and I was kind of reluctant to pick this one up. In the series I didn’t really like her, but from your review I might have to give her another chance.
    Thanks for sharing. :)
