Review: Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore

Magic Under Glass

Please note that this is on auto post as I am on vacation. If there are mistakes, parts you may not be able to read or links that don’t work I apologize and will fix as soon as I am able.

Nimira is a music-hall girl used to dancing for pennies. So when wealthy sorcerer Hollin Parry hires her to sing accompaniment to a mysterious piano-playing automaton, Nimira believes it will be the start of a better life.

In Parry’s world, long-buried secrets are about to stir. Unsettling rumors begin to swirl about ghosts, a madwoman roaming the halls, and Parry’s involvement in a group of corrupt sorcerers for whom the rules of the living and dead are meant to be broken for greater power.

When Nimira discovers the spirit of a dashing fairy gentleman is trapped within the automaton, she is determined to break the curse. But even as the two fall into a love that seems hopeless, breaking the curse becomes a perilous race against time. Because it’s not just the future of these star-crossed lovers that’s at stake, but the fate of the entire magical world.

My Thoughts:
This was a nice quick read but kept me entranced the entire time!  Nimira is a wonderful character that you can’t help but love from page one.  She is brave and open minded and fights for what she believes is right.
I have an ARC so I don’t know if the finished copy is any different, but the story felt a little rushed.  I’m not sure what could have been added, but I would have liked a few more conversations with Nim and Erris, the faerie prince.  Their love story didn’t quite feel complete.  And the ending seemed to be less then a conclusion then I would have liked, but I hear there’s a sequel being wrote and I’m anxious to see where it goes.
It certainly is a compelling love story though and Erris has potential to be a fantastic character if we see just a bit more of him.
Overall this was a great story that I’m sorry I didn’t pick up a bit sooner!  I give it 4 moons!
