Kids Pick Wednesday (Thursday this week)

The One and Only Marigold

Kids Pick Wednesday is where I spotlight one of my daughter’s books that we’ve read recently.  It is sometimes from the library and sometimes one we own.

This weeks pick was a completely random library grab that has turned out to be one of my favorite children’s books this year!  Meaning, that I’ve read this year.  I think it came out in 2009.
This book had us both laughing so hard that my husband was shooting daggers at us (he was trying to watch TV).  It’s called The One and Only Marigold by Florence Parry Heide.  It has excellent illustrations!  Which are by Jill Mcellmurry.  Here’s a description from shelfari:
Meet Marigold! From renowned author Florence Parry Heide comes a picture book about one clever, complicated—and hilarious—little girl. Follow Marigold as she buys a new coat (don’t worry, she still wears the old one to bed. She’s a very loyal person), plays a great trick (involving a Special Surprise Treasure Stand and worms), and much more. Along the way you’ll meet Marigold’s best friend—her purple coat—and her next best friend—Maxine. Simply and with inimitable humor, a legendary picture book writer and inventive illustrator create an original character that all children will laugh over . . . and will love. From the Hardcover edition.

This is a book with a few stories in one.  But they seem to carry on one after the other and so all connect in one way or another.  Like her purple coat.

Like I said, this book had us giggling like there was no tomorrow and this is one I’ll be watching for in the stores.  The storyline was great and the character, Marigold, was a lot of fun.
I rate this book 5 moons for story line and illustrations.  Perfect.
